Rap Viet Season 2: What is left after the storm?

Coming back as expected by the fans, Rap Viet Season 2 deals with a slew of challenging issues, both artistically and in terms of media effects.

Rap music is subjected to a ‘wave of criticism’

Rap Viet and King Of Rap's debut on two major TV stations, VTV3 and HTV2, during the golden hours on Saturday nights in 2020, set off the "rap culture bomb". Rap appeared here and there, with its roots in underground melodies and stories, creating such a powerful inspirational effect. Tlinh, MCK, Ricky Star, HIEUTHUHAI, and many other young faces from the underground world had the opportunity to perform on stage and be covered by the mainstream media. The talents that emerged from the two shows were as sought after as pop singers at the time.

After a year of "sweeping" the entertainment industry, rap culture is now causing controversies and widespread criticism for its obscene lyrics and topics that violate ethical standards or touch on sensitive issues. For example, "junk" products widely distributed on the Internet are criticized in VTV's I din: "Don rac khong gian mang" reporting. Following that, the Performing Arts Department stepped in; the Rap Nha Lam Group was roundly chastised for rapping about religion; rapper Chi Ca apologized for the lewd rap; and a large number of tracks were removed from YouTube.

Rap music was quickly engulfed in controversy due to a plethora of opposing viewpoints. Some people consider diss rap and inappropriate language to be important components of Hip Hop culture. Others believe that rappers who violate traditional fine customs should face harsh punishment. Rap music has a significant impact, especially when it is "brought to light" rather than remaining "underground". With its return to television this time, it remains to be seen whether Rap Viet Season 2 will maintain public interest and once again demonstrate Rap's artistry in the aftermath of recent issues.

Challenging to go over with a bang again

In terms of media impact, the success of Rap Viet Season 1 was also due to a well-thought-out communications strategy and a one-of-a-kind format. As was the case in October of last year, the program's cuts were widely disseminated shortly after the episode aired, prompting a flurry of comments (and even controversy) and predictions all over the place. This created an extremely lively atmosphere on social media.

Following its return, the show is streamed on application programs in addition to TV, and finally, YouTube reduces viral effects and limits "memes" as well as public opinions. Most importantly, the minor changes made in Season 2 regarding coaches or auto-tuning technology are still insufficient. Rap Viet's format has remained the same since Season 1: a talent hunt show with the slogan "War of Rap Stars". Furthermore, many people are skeptical of Rap Viet's motto due to a disparity in the caliber of the candidates. Why do new rappers compete with established rappers? Is it the plan for new rappers to be eliminated as soon as they enter the next round?

Finally, there have been a number of disputes involving the unauthorized use of other people's intellectual property. As a result, Rap Viet Season 2's image has deteriorated significantly in the eyes of the audience.

Rap Viet 2021 has changed dramatically. It has not only had to overcome the "shadow" of the first season, but it has also had to deal with a number of complex issues. Rap Viet will not be satisfied simply narrating rappers' stories from "street to boulevard" or bringing Rap closer to the general public. How will "Battle of the Rap Stars" be portrayed on television? To answer the question, Rap Viet Season 2 will undoubtedly necessitate a detailed "outline".
