According to the Philippines's Secretary of Foreign Affairs - Teodoro Locsin, no one was injured in the incident at Bai Co May. However, Philippines ships transporting food for military personnel - illegally built here - had to abandon their mission, according to Reuters on November 18.

"The Chinese coast guard's actions are illegal", Locsin said in a statement.

Locsin also stated that he sent the Chinese ambassador in Manila "the strongest words" to express "our outrage, condemnation, and protest over the incident". The Secretary of Foreign Affairs also warned that Beijing's inability to restrain itself would jeopardize the two countries' special relationship.

"China does not have law enforcement capabilities in and around these areas", Locsin said.

The Chinese Embassy in Manila has yet to respond to media inquiries about the incident.
