According to CMA Deputy Director Yu Rucong, China will increase its influence in the field of weather aviation service by cooperating with Russia in international affairs and fulfilling international obligations. CMA hopes China and Russia will further cooperate in data sharing to provide more accurate and practical products and services to users in the global civil aviation industry.

The China-Russia Space Weather Center (CRC) in Beijing is established and operated by the China Meteorological Administration, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and the Russian Environmental Monitoring and Weather Service.

CMA says CRC is the fourth global space weather center. Space weather has implications for satellite operations, aviation safety, and the network of ground-based pipelines.

According to Reuters news agency, the announcement was made as China is accelerating the development of its space programs. This year, China launched a mission to send astronauts into space to build the Tiangong space station. The CMA reveals China has also developed a national-level space weather service operating mechanism capable of producing short-term to long-term forecasts.

In 2018, China and Russia jointly applied for the establishment of a space weather center and the CRC center was approved in 2020.
